Lauren Shugrue, CPA
The Innovative CPA Group (ICG) is proud to share that one of their founding partners, Lauren Shugrue, CPA, has been awarded the 2024 Women Innovators Award from the Westfair Business Journal. This award recognizes Lauren’s outstanding dedication to her profession, unwavering commitment to driving positive change, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
Lauren’s innovative achievements and significant contributions to the accounting industry make her a highly deserving recipient of this award. In 2017, Lauren co-founded The Innovative CPA Group with partner Charles D. Smith, CPA. Currently, she is serving as a founding and managing partner, she has played a pivotal role in transforming the firm into a strong, successful, and innovative business. While the accounting industry is increasingly dominated by women —56.8% of all CPAs—Lauren distinguishes herself as a role model by being part of the 39% of female CPA partners. Besides her professional endeavors, Lauren is dedicated to giving back to her community. She visits Trumbull High School annually to speak with students about career paths in accounting and the various job opportunities within the industry. Going the extra mile, she offers students the opportunity to participate in a shadowing day at The Innovative CPA Group. Her goal is to inspire the next generation and increase interest in accounting career paths.
In addition to her community involvement through educational engagements, Lauren recently founded the not-for-profit organization, “Roar for The Cause.” Her mission is to raise awareness and educate women under 40 about the risks of breast cancer. While mammograms are typically recommended at age 40, breast cancer cases are increasingly being diagnosed in younger women. Lauren’s goal is to advocate for earlier testing and raise funds to support young women affected by breast cancer. Before founding this organization, Lauren had been raising funds for breast cancer research through the Fairfield County “Making Strides” Breast Cancer Walk for the past few years. Now, she hopes to make a larger impact through “Roar for The Cause.”
Lauren has demonstrated exceptional professional growth throughout her career, establishing herself as an integral part of Innovative CPA Group and the accounting industry. She has also demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience by balancing motherhood with three young children. Lauren’s innovation and dedication shine both professionally and personally, and we are proud and grateful to have her on our team.
